Over the past weeks, I have received some listener email that have posed interesting questions. On this podcast, I answer some the interesting items and expand, in some places, where appropriate.

email from Roy: Could you quickly explain and or make a cast on explaining the lenses for these cameras, what does the mm mean and also the f number. My understanding it’s the size of the aperture? IS it the maximum size the aperture can go?

email from Marcus: ...(sending shows on CD) I would like to encourage you to offer this great compilation to the masses. I think that's a great resource for someone collecting shows or having a slow internet connection (which is still quite usual here in europes non-city homes) and a good, innovative idea in general. I think you will have interested people buying your CD.

email from Mike: I just finished listening to podcast Vol 1 No. 9... Fake Photography... I disagree with your sisters point of view 100%. Just an opinion, but I think that the only way to capture a true moment in time is in your mind as a memory. Film can't even do that. I look at it like live music. If you go to a concert, you will never experience that "moment" on a live CD. Can't be done. I hope she is taking digital pictures now,(I know that was more than a half year ago when you did the interview)

email from Ian: The question i have came to mind when you reviewed ACDSee: i wanted to know if tasks like levels, curves, unsharp mask... that are bundled in various applications all work as well as each other or whether performing the same tasks within photoshop will yield different results? also I wanted to know about the settings that appear in all of the inkjet (an presumably other) printer software interfaces. If i take a special image and spend hours editing it as detailed in your podcasts to optimise sharpening for the output image size.... then should i simply go through the settings in the printer software (that crop up as options in the print dialogue) and disable them? I'm talking about things like colour correction, digital flash, sharpness etc...

SDI Vol1No8 20060221 - Color Managing Your Printer

This is the last show about color management for a while. We've covered most of the color management items through our interview with Tim Grey and so we end the series with this discussion of using color profiles with your printer. You have only four choices: 1) Stay with the printer manufacturer's recommendations of paper and ink, 2) Roll your own color profiles using Profile Prism, 3) Purchase profiles from someone else, and 4) Roll your own with Gretag Macbeth equipment. All four have their advantages and disadvantages.
